Ancient Egyptian Faience Wedjat Eye
Circa 664-30 BC - Late to Ptolemaic Period
This nice faience amulet showcases a stylized depiction of the Eye of Horus with perforation running through its centre.
In ancient Egyptian symbolism, the Eye of Horus, also known as the "wedjat" eye, represented the eye of the falcon-headed god Horus. It symbolized protection, royal power, and good health. The eye's association with Horus, the god of the sky and divine protector, conveyed a sense of watchfulness and safeguarding against malevolent forces. Additionally, the Eye of Horus was believed to possess healing properties and was often worn as an amulet to invoke the deity's protective influence.
