Statue - Kaka - Kamerun (Ingen reservasjonspris)

Kaka/Kaeka (also known as Yamba) is an ethnic group of about 80,000 people living in the Northwest Region of Cameroon near the eastern border of Nigeria. Among researchers and enthusiasts of tribal art, the Kakas have long been confused due to the similarity in names with another Cameroonian group, the Keaka. The Keaka, belonging to the Ekoi ethnic group, live in the southwestern part of Cameroon and across the border in eastern Nigeria. This statue depicting a woman exhibits typical characteristics of Kaka statues: the head shape, hand positions, bent knees, and sturdy legs. The wood material used is heavy. Kaka statues share stylistic features with the art of the Mambila and other neighboring peoples. The exact purpose of these statues is unclear, but they are believed to be associated with ancestral worship and rituals related to healing. Older Kaka statues used in rituals often have a characteristic thick and rough patina, believed to have formed over time from sacrificial blood, ash, and smoke. This statue is likely relatively young and does not have a thick patina.
