Byzantine Pottery Oil Lamp
Circa 5th-7th century AD
This pottery oil lamp features a drop-shaped body on a ring base, with a small wick hole and a large filling hole with a circular raised rim.
Oil lamps were essential household items used for illumination in ancient times. Typically made of pottery or bronze, these lamps featured a shallow dish filled with oil and a wick inserted through a hole in the spout. The wick was lit, providing a steady flame for lighting indoor spaces during the evening hours.
