His real surname was Saito, and he was popularly known as Nagayoshi. His pen name was Korekei. He was known by the names Nanryo, Keisai, Chotakogumo-no-sha, and Gekiga-do. He was born in Tokyo. In 1892, at the age of 18, he studied painting under Kawabe Gotate of the Tosa school, and also studied the Torii school's style under his father, Kiyosada. As the third Torii Kiyomitsu, the sixth head of the Torii school, had no successor, he succeeded the fourth Torii Kiyosada, becoming the seventh head of the Torii school. He painted signs and rankings for the Kabuki-za and Shintomi-za theaters. He also worked on woodblock prints at the end of the Meiji period. He died at the age of 67. His pupils included his son Torii Kotohito, Torii Tadamune, Kiyomune, Kiyoharu, Tadaaki, Tadamune, Tadakuni, Tadamune, Tadason, Tadanaga, Tadami, Tadaume, Tadakata, and Tadamashi. The family made a great contribution to theatrical painting.
