A fine bi-folio manuscript, scribed in AH1205 (AD1790), after the works of Khwāje Shams-od-Dīn Moḥammad Ḥāfeẓ-e Shīrāzī (Persian: خواجه شمس‌‌الدین محمد حافظ شیرازی), known by his pen name ‘Hafiz’ ('the memorizer; the (safe) keeper’), a Persian lyric poet whose collected works are regarded by many Iranians as one of the highest pinnacles of Persian literature. One of his many beautiful and profound quotes is shown below

‘I will always lean my heart as close to your soul as I can’ - Hafiz

His works are often found in the homes of Persian speakers, who learn his poems by heart and use them as everyday proverbs and sayings. Sadly most of the pages from this work, scribed by Ahmed, were damaged and torn, but luckily we were able to rescue this fine bi-folio which is in good condition for its age. It is scribed in nastaliq with blue, red and gold divisions and margins on gold sprinkled paper. It is small and is likely therefore to have been a travellers companion book.

Each page is of the dimensions shown.

Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.

Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.

With our pleasure. Thank you for your purchase.

The art piece came damaged unfortunately. The glass from the front was broken. I recommend the seller to send it with Fan Courier or other high quality postal services. However, I really like it.

Was very satisfied until I found out that the manuscripts are held to the mount by adhesive tape impossible to remove without damaging the manuscripts. Who the hell puts tape on old manuscripts?!

We do show the mounting in the photographs that are provided for the auction. The tape we use is acid-free mounting tape and placed on the outer margins of the manuscripts on the reverse side.

Carefully packed, arrived in best condition

Thank you for this review. We are delighted you are satisfied. Kind regards.

Arrived very well packaged and padded. Go easy perhaps on the protective tape over the glass. It's the wrong type of tape. I can't remove it to see the painting !! But thanks all the same Rob

Glad it arrived safely but disappointed the tape is proving difficult to remove. I hadn't realised we had taped the glass. Will you be able to resolve?
