Banksy (1974) - Dismaland Bemusement Park Programme - Art items
Dismaland was a temporary art project organised by British street artist Banksy, constructed in the seaside resort town of Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, England. Prepared in secret, the pop-up exhibition at the Tropicana, a disused lido, was a “sinister twist on Disneyland” that opened during the weekend of 21 August 2015 and closed permanently on 27 September 2015, 36 days later. Banksy described it as a “family theme park unsuitable for children.”
Here is a fantastic opportunity to acquire 3 rare pieces of memorabilia that document what will surely go down as one of the greatest art exhibitions of modern times:
1 - Official Dismaland Programme, 64 pages. Contains articles written by Banksy, a guide to the theme park and features on all of the artists who took part in the hugely successful exhibition, including Damien Hirst, Jenny Holzer, Bill Barminski, Paco Pomet, Jimmy Cauty, David Shrigley, Polly Morgan, and more. Also features sketches of the initial ideas for the park by Banksy, interviews with some of the other artists and a schedule of events that were planned for whilst the installation was open
2 - Original Art work from the Banksy Art project Dismaland Bemusement Park
Provenance - From a private collection, obtained from Dismaland as part of the hidden 'Free Art' notion. Various pieces of artwork would be hidden around Dismaland for members of the public to find and keep, pieces were few and far between and were allegedly dumped by Banksy and other exhibiting artists, although with no COA considered as gift and Banksy Dismaland Art project/ Theme Park
