London, Thomas Tegg, 1841. 8vo (22 x 14cms) pp. x. 581 + 1 publisher’s catalogue. Bound in elegant dark blue full calf with gilt linear decorations to boards. Heavily gilt decorated compartments to spine. Gilt titles to maroon spine label. Both boards bear the circular gilt logo for Sheffield Collegiate dated 1835 with school moto. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Embellished with 10 full page engraved plates as called for to include frontispiece. Some double images to a page. The book is protected in a fitted brodart sleeve.
Contents include preface, history and religious ceremonies of Judaism, Islam, the Greek and Roman Catholic churches, Protestant Communities, Pagan Nations and Tribes, a brief view of minor sects. Introduction.
Condition: Good. Binding is tight. Both front and rear inner hinges are cracked but binding is fully attached. Neat previous owners name and date together with pasted down bookplate to front free endpaper. Some discolouration to frontispiece and some engravings edges with foxing to attached frontispiece tissue guard. Pages complete and clean throughout. Only minimal signs of age and usage.
