This is a copper insect vase created by Ito Kyuhodo's Copper Insect Shop.
A large carp is painted on a hammered copper vase.
Golden carp are considered very auspicious. They are said to increase luck with money, career advancement, and the ability to adapt to the environment.
Copper insect vases are vases made of copper insect work designated as a traditional craft in Hiroshima Prefecture. The technique involves shaping copper plates with a hammer, applying a "tsuchime" pattern to the surface, and polishing them with rice straw smoke to achieve a burnt brown color reminiscent of jewel beetles. This technique, used to make braziers, kettles, and vases from copper plates, was devised by Sasakki Denbei, a copper artisan who served Lord Asano, the feudal lord of Hiroshima, during the Edo period. The characteristic of copper insect products lies in their coloring, resembling the antique black-brown color of jewel beetles. Additionally, copper vases can keep cut flowers fresh for a long time. Copper material has sterilizing and antibacterial effects, inhibiting the growth of bacteria. Simply inserting it into a flower vase alongside cut flowers can help keep them fresh and beautiful for longer.
