This is a beautiful antique lithograph from a work by Arthur G.Butler (1844-1925), an entomologist at the British Museum who worked on the taxonomy of birds, insects and spiders. He employed one of the finest illustrators of birds of all time, Frederick William Frohawk, to illustrate the birds in this set of prints
William Frohawk (1861–1949) was a distinguished British lepidopterist and artist, renowned for his detailed illustrations of butterflies. He contributed significantly to the field of entomology, particularly through his comprehensive work "Natural History of British Butterflies," which included meticulous paintings of all the stages of British butterfly species. Frohawk was also an accomplished taxidermist and natural history artist, with his works being displayed in various museums and collections. His contributions have left a lasting legacy in the study and appreciation of butterflies, combining scientific accuracy with artistic beauty (History of photography)
