Zhang, Zhengchang (ed.) - China Traffic Police (中国交通警察) - 1989

The photographs depict the white-gloved police happily directing traffic that is less chaotic than is experienced today on the streets of Chinese cities. The text documents the development of traffic administration, including the issuance of license plates and driver’s licenses, maintenance of roads, auto insurance, and driver education. It also equates traffic control with social control, noting that “traffic administration is a part of social administration . . . closely connected with the development of society and [the] economy.”
