A charming, six-panel hinagata byôbu 雛形屏風 (doll festival folding screens) featuring a painting in the style of the Kanō School on a goldish silver leaf background.
Featuring a gatehring of cranes 鶴 (tsuru) near a blossoming red plum tree 梅 (ume), set against a backdrop of a hilly landscape with rocks along a winding river. A sparrow 雀 (suzume) perched on a branch, with a blue Japanese tit 四十雀 (shijûkara) in flight approaching it.
The painting is surrounded by a thin red and a broad green brocade silk border. Protected by a black wooden frame with its original hardware.
Period: Japan – Second half 19th century (Early Meiji period).

Total width: 147.8 cm (2 x 25.3 cm and 4 x 24.3 cm), Height 55.2 cm.
Considering the age it is in a good condition. There are some to be expected sign of age and wear. Two inconspicuous tears in the left 2 panels, see last 2 photos. For a general clear condition reference, please refer to the photos as well.
The folding screens are ideal for mounting flat on a wall and presenting as a single work of art.
