Name for these three paintings: 『夏季山水・寒山拾得・雪景山水』 Terasaki Kogyo寺崎広業(1866-1919) born in Akita in 2nd year of Keio era. Kogyo is his real name. He has other titles such as Shusai, Sozan, and Toryuken. The Terasaki family was the chief retainer of the Akita domain, but after the domain was abolished, his father failed in business such as running a school, and Hiroya aimed to become a painter. He first studied under Eijisai Komuro, then moved to Tokyo and temporarily studied at Hirafukuhoan, where he also studied with Hakuryu Sugawara. After Hoan's return to his hometown, he took over the illustrations for Toyodo's art magazine ``Egasoushi.'' He was recognized by Tenshin Okakura and participated in the formation of the Japan Youth Painting Association in 1889. In 1891, he participated in the founding of the Japan Art Institute and sought new forms of Japanese painting. He became a professor at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1901, a member of the Judging Committee for the Bunten Exhibition in 1902, and an imperial artist in 1912. In his later years, he devoted his life to modernizing Japanese painting, exploring new landscape paintings in an eclectic style that took advantage of the characteristics of watercolors, Yamato-e, and Nanga. He died in 1918 at the age of 52. With tomobako, the reverse of the lid was personally inscribed by his student Noda kyūho野田九浦(1879-1971) and certified as authentic artwork.
