A special pilsner that appeals to true pilsner drinkers and is loved by specialty beer enthusiasts, that was our starting point for this new Test Garden beer. We have been planning this intention for some time now. Actually, there were even two ideas on the shelf...

Our first new pilsner was a top fermenter, based on the old 'Keulse Wiess' as we say in Limburg. We called that beer Het Weerzien and introduced it in April 2021 to celebrate the reopening of the catering industry after a long time. We saved the second idea for the Test Garden.

In the beer world nowadays we come across many heavy stouts, such as a Russian Imperial Stout. Wonderfully thick and full-bodied, and thanks to an alcohol content of at least 10%, a beer to take your time for. But to enjoy it in peace and quiet, we of course have our Grand Prestige. In England and Ireland we see drinkable stouts, but with little body. The malt bitterness is often much too high, while we find balance extremely important. That bitterness disguises other flavors and only when everything is perfectly balanced do all the ingredients come into their own.

We brewers are regularly asked why we don't brew an IPA yet, and to be honest, that has been a very conscious choice until now. We sometimes discuss it, but we are not fans of a beer that is too bitter and in which there is no longer any harmony. That must be possible differently. We went looking for an IPA style that is nice and hoppy, but that we can balance nicely ourselves.
