A large Vanuatu war club with typical four-star shaped protrusions at the head. Second half to end of the 19th century.
Origin : Vanuatu / Melanesia / Oceania
Culture: Melanesia / Ni Vanuatu
Vanuatu war club of dense hardwood with natural shades of reddish and lighter and darker brown. Four conical protrusions to the head. Thick, slightly tapering cylindrical shaft with conical butt.
Measurements : whole length 87 cm; broadest width at protrusions 10 cm and 5 cm at the butt.
Provenance : ex UK private collection.
Condition : Overall in good condition. Damages and minor loss of wood to the rim of the butt, one star protrusion restored. Usual wear and tear due to use and age (i.e. minor dents and scuffmarks), patina of use.
