This remarkable Edo period iron tsuba (sword guard), weighing 88 grams, features a masterfully crafted openwork relief design depicting pine trees and cranes. In Japanese culture, the crane is a symbol of longevity and good fortune, often associated with peace and prosperity. The pine tree, resilient and evergreen, represents endurance and eternal youth. Together, these motifs convey wishes for long-lasting happiness and robust health.
The tsuba shows signs of wear typical of its age, including slight rust and surface wear. It is carefully preserved in a paulownia wood box, enhancing its value as a collectible. Please review the photos to assess the detailed condition.
