A beautiful Dutch Delft blue and white chinoiserie charger from 1650-1700 (Kaapse schotel)

These plates were inspired by the popular Chinese Wan-Li wall plates, with the typical eight fan-shaped panels at the rim.

These particular Delft dishes are known as "Kaapse schotel" (Cape dish). Chinese porcelain was imported via the Cape of Good Hope route (South Africa).

The center of the dish is decorated with a table with a large flower vase and a chinese scroll. The vase on the table is decorated with a typical Chinese pagode, which makes it a quite unique and rare scenery.

What is very typical for the Dutch Kaapse schotel is de dark blue edge. During the day the pottery worker dipped the brush in a bowl to clean the blue brush, in the end of the day the clean water was full cobalt blue. This liquid was called "trek" and was re-used to color the edges of the plates at the end of the day. That's maybe why the Dutch are called "stingy"?

The plate is in beautiful condition for its age. The edges have some damage and there is one hairline in the plate.

Photos must be seen as part of the description.

In the Netherlands and Belgium the plate will be delivered door-to-door (no courier companies). For shipping outside Netherlands and Belgium the plate will be very carefully packed, shipped with Track&Trace, insurance and signature on delivery.

My advice: for items of 100€ or less watch out for sellers applying fixed shipping costs. In my case, shipping was 75 €. While the cost for a local carrier is 10€ including insurance.

Dear buyer, I am really unhappy to read that you are not happy. You purchased a lovely painting from the well-known Belgium artist Leo Mechelaere. Similar pieces are sold between €200-€450 and it costed you all-included €175 delivered at home. The added costs and fees are known before bidding, and to negotiate afterwards about this costs is not fair for the others bidders who were also interested in this art piece.

Alles wunderbar - ein sehr schönes Bild, das meine Erwartungen mehr als erfüllt. Vielen Dank!
