Winemaking: It remains between 18 and 24 months in large wooden vats where it completes malolactic fermentation and rests before being racked. Between 72 and 84 months (depending on the vintage) in 225-litre American oak barrels. Filtered with fresh egg whites. A minimum of 10 years in the bottle before being sold. Special sealing to ensure greater longevity and hygiene of the cork. Tasting notes: It has a very light ruby colour, brownish, translucent, medium-low layer, with a very fine granulation that does not end up precipitating despite having been in the bottle for a few days in an upright position. Orange reflections, amber, luminous. Wide rim, with hardly any difference with the meniscus, tarnished. Plethoric, spherified, compendium and quintessence of all the virtues of Franco-Españolas. It oozes authenticity, harmony and roundness, elegance, finesse, emotion... It is a caramel of lilacs, smoky and creamy toast, withered flowers and Mediterranean mountain herbs, graphite, with a mantle of earthy and mineral notes that is hard to believe. The fruit stands out victoriously as it breathes, ripe, gourmand, as pure as the day it was bottled. A must-drink. Fresh, spicy, light, with great concentration and intense acidity. It is on the crest of the wave, vibrant and nervous, full of life, tasty, very classic in its forms but with an unabashed youthfulness. It sparkles without hiding a very serious, recognisable, vanilla, spicy, barely reduced by these years of ageing. It is hard to believe that wines like this were made more than 50 years ago. The extreme elegance of this wine takes us back to the winery's golden age. Franco-Españolas reigned in Rioja in the 1950s with wines of pure emotion, classic, timeless Rioja, as traditional and well-known as they are longed for. Few wines deserve their name more than these old Excelso. It is a joke, and in bad taste, that they continue to produce them as if there were a connection between the present and the past, tarnishing this sacrosanct label. No way! A little seriousness would not go amiss. Enough of living on rents!!!!
