2001 Henri Jayer - Échezeaux Grand Cru - 1 Fles (0,75 liter)

One of the most legendary bottles we ever sold. We bought a large collection of Echezeaux Jayer from a private collector incl. the original case of 12 1999 Echezeaux. We tasted the Echezeaux 1997 with the team to make sure all was in order, and this turned out to be one of the best reds of my life! We are selling the bottles lose due to the high value.

Henri Jayer was a producer of red Burgundy known for making some of the most critically acclaimed and expensive Pinot Noir in the world. Jayer retired in from winemaking in 2001 and passed away in 2006, and the domaine was left to his nephew, Emmanuel Rouget, and all vintages since 2001 have been released under his name.

Their limited production and the ever-diminishing number in existence have made Henri Jayer's wines some of the most collectible and highly priced in the world. While critically acclaimed, the reputation of Jayer's wines were further added-to by featuring in the likes of the Drops of God, a Japanese Manga series of books about wine.

The label itself was founded by Jayer when he inherited 3 hectares (7 acres) of land in the Côte d'Or, including parcels in the grand cru vineyard Echézeaux. He began bottling wine under his own name in the early 1950s, including wines made from fruit from vineyards he tended, owned by the Noirot-Camuzet family.

Jayer's most famous wines came from the Echézeaux and Richebourg grand cru vineyards, and the premier cru vineyard Cros Parantoux (which Jayer famously replanted with the aid of dynamite to blast into the bedrock). In 2014 a case of 1985 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux from Jayer's private collection sold for $265,200 at an auction in Hong Kong.

Emmanuel Rouget's wines still command high prices but are not close to the astronomical figures of Jayer's.
