Indus Valley Pottery Bowl with Ibexes
Circa 3rd millennium BC
This finely crafted pottery bowl features a flat base and a biconical profile that subtly widens before tapering to a slightly flaring rim. The exterior is adorned with a band of black painted ibexes.
The ibex is a wild goat species belonging to the genus Capra, notable for its impressive climbing abilities and distinct physical characteristics. Ibexes are characterized by their robust bodies, short legs, and long, curved horns, which can reach up to 1 meter in males. Their horns are adorned with ridges and are a significant feature used in mating displays and territorial battles.
