Batch 39
Whiskey casks served as a basis for batch 39, within which the La Trappe Quadrupel aged for more than 2 years. These casks originate from distilleries of the Irish 'Jameson' and the Scottish 'Speyside' region. Before the barrels were used for the ageing of whiskey, they were first used for the production of sherry. Aromas of both liquors are recognizable in this batch.
The batch offers a somewhat fruity aroma, with immediately identifiable pear and dark forest fruit tones. In the background, soft oak and vanilla aromas can be detected. The palate begins sharp, and the whisky is subtly present. As the sip progresses, the taste softens. Liquorice and natural liquorice root emerge in the aftertaste.
The whiskeys used in this ale are, in contrast to most Scotch whiskies, very soft in flavour. This results in a well-balanced and approachable ale.
Batch 39 was blended in August of 2020.
Batch 44
La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged batch 44 has been aged for two and a half years in White Wine Barriques, sourced from the Gaillac region of southern France, which is home to well-known Bordeaux wine varieties such as Sauvignon blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle come from.
Batch #44 is a deep mahogany brown, darker than the normal Quadruple. The fine perlage of the head is light brown.
The ale is rich on the nose, with hints of raisins, apple, honey and ripened fruit. Quadrupel’s quintessential characteristics and the vanilla notes from the oak wood complete the nose.
The ale is lightly sweet, malty and full-bodied on the palate, with fresh notes from the white wine harmonising with the softness of the oak. The warm finish is characterised by a unique combination of mild acidity and dryness.
Batch 44 is a unique and highly balanced ale from the La Trappe Oak Aged series. It is a ale to be savoured in peace and quiet. This batch was blended in March 2022.
Batch 46
La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged batch 46 was aged for three years in red wine barrels sourced from the French region of Gaillac. This region is a very old AOC area, known for its robust red wines.
The pour immediately reveals a dark amber colour, much darker and cloudier than the normal Quadrupel. The beer has a subtle velvety head with very fine carbonation.
The nose exhibits powerful aromas of vanilla and dried dark fruit. This batch was aged in red-wine barriques for an extended period of time, producing a rounded, smooth beer with a greatly diminished bitterness.
The beer is slightly sweet, tart and mild on the palate with delicate, tingling bubbles. Highly refined, warm and perfectly balanced!
As the beer warms up, aromas of dried dates, figs, dried red fruit, raisins and walnuts start to unfold. The tannins from the wood are more prominent on the palate.
La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged Batch 46 is a refined tasting beer. A perfect marriage of La Trappe Quadrupel, red wine and oak. The optimal serving temperature of this beer is between 16 and 18°C, which is a range in which the beer really comes into its own.
Batch 46 was blended in October 2022.
