Halisaurus was a genus of small mosasaurs, marine reptiles that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, about 85 to 66 million years ago. Reaching about 3 to 4 meters (10 to 13 feet) in length, it was an agile swimmer with a streamlined body, flipper-like limbs, and sharp teeth suited for a carnivorous diet of fish and smaller marine creatures. Fossils of Halisaurus have been found in North America, Europe, and Africa. It went extinct around 66 million years ago during the mass extinction that also wiped out the non-avian dinosaurs.
