Reprint of Andy Warhol's Flowers poster of the exhibition at the famous Leo Castelli Gallery in New York in 1964.

Andy Warhol wanted to be famous. In fact, it could be said that no one studied the concept of fame as much as he did. Creator, consumer, critic of fame, this artist packaged and sold the Andy Warhol brand as just another product of the consumer society. And he did it so well that the fifteen minutes of fame to which everyone is entitled lasted for decades.

Warhol was the son of Slovak immigrants who settled in Pittsburgh. His mother was a very important figure, as she pampered and overprotected her son to the point that she lived with him all his life. Warhol, a weirdo himself, decided to go to New York and devote himself to art, specifically commercial illustration, which earned him good money.

Institutional abstract expressionism dominated the art scene and Warhol wanted to pursue a completely different style. With his experience in advertising, he began to show mass consumer products such as coke bottles, Campbell's soup cans... and in the end, people who were products in themselves, such as Marilyn, Mao or Elvis.

The reaction of the art scene was an earthquake. Suddenly, abstract expressionism ceased to exist. Now it was modern Pop, with its freshness, humor and superficiality. Warhol became a star. He was known in every house in America. It must be said that he hired publicists to get his name in the press all the time.

In the meantime, he refined his appearance. He was going bald, so he started wearing his famous wigs. He surrounded himself with flamboyant New York characters and rented a warehouse (The Factory) that served as his workshop and was filled 24 hours a day with amphetamine addicts, transsexuals and rock bands led by Warhol himself (The Velvet Underground).

Throughout his career, the artist cultivated drawing, painting, screen printing, sculpture, music, film, television, fashion, performance, theater, photography and even digital art.

Warhol was thus a renaissance man in an era culturally saturated with elements. A visionary who smelled what the world would eventually become: a series of throwaway fashions, subcultures becoming cultures, tabloids replacing information and reality shows replacing life itself.
