An exceptionally finely cast, chiseled and parcel-gilt standish (inkwell), Empire style, measuring circa 10.5cm in length and weighing 728g, decorated with the lid with the cast figure of a recumbent Cupid, holding his bow in his left hand and admiring the gilt heart that he has captured. The side of the inkwell decorated with applied gilt ornament depicting garlands suspended by birds. The gilt bronze interior reveals a porcelain ink reservoir, a powder sprinkler and two plume holders. Condition: Very good, crack to the porcelain ink tub, no other significant damages or repairs.
