About the Kabuto:
Edo period (1615-1868), 18th/19th century
Amaing piece of art worthly of the best museums in the word. The iron helmet bowl of exceptional quality and very rare representing a legendary animal, a Tengu, half bird half human.
These strange helmets called kawari were created for the great feudal lords and the most powerful daimyos to give fear to the opponents, undoubtedly this helmet was made for a member of very high class given the high cost that could represent to make it.. These pieces are almost impossible to get, even with a lot of money and much less in Europe, as they are usually kept by great collectors. This piece is a work of art from the middle of the Edo period. You can see the gilded interior with its headbands, a very rare leather work. also the details of the Tengu are spectacular. Eyes also with gold and a cross symbol in bronze. The shikoro is a traditional style nerikawa with some minor damage but overall the condition of this helmet makes it a great museum piece, undoubtedly one of the best pieces we have had.
