The 18 mp Canon EOS 550D is a ‘crop factor’ DSLR camera, which means that there is (in Canon’s case) a factor of 1.6x the focal length of a lens that determines the field of view if you would want to get an idea of what focal length on a full frame camera it’s comparable to. In the EOS 550D kit was a EFS 18-55 mm lens, specially designed for Canon crop factor cameras, lightweight and compact and comparable to 28.8-88 mm full frame. For the use of a longer lens, for which a crop sensor camera is a cheap but capable way to have more reach, I also acquired the BG-E8 battery grip to improve the balance and have 2 batteries that last well over a day’s shooting. The other battery is a Hähnel LP-E8. Both batteries have been charged fully as a test for their loading capacities. The second lens is a EF 28-80 mm, also usable on full frame Canon bodies, but on the 550D comparable to 44.8 (standard)-128 mm (light tele).
