Middeleeuws Zilver Ring met gegraveerd motief
A well-preserved Medieval silver signet ring, featuring a round hoop and a square bezel. The bezel features an engraved motif, potentially a figure, floral or constellation, which itself is framed by incised dots. The shoulders of the ring are also decorated with engraved dots. The ring is covered with a thick patina.
Gold and silver rings were the most popular pieces of jewellery to be worn in Medieval times by both men and women. Not only were they a way to display wealth and social status but they were also used as tokens of love and to ward off misfortune. Additionally, the combination of motives engraved on the bezel provided further insight into the owner’s identity, such as their place in a family. The rings were placed on all fingers and at different joints on the hands.
