A pair of second half 20th Buddhist Bhavacakra (Wheel of Life) copper (pressed?) repose wall panels with detailed decoration. The bhavachakra (Tibetan: སྲིད་པའི་འཁོར་ལོ) or wheel of life is a visual teaching aid and meditation tool symbolically representing saṃsāra (or cyclic existence). It is found on the walls of Tibetan Buddhist temples and monasteries in the Indo-Tibetan region, to help both Buddhists and non Buddhists understand the core Buddhist teachings. The central three symbols, The pig, rooster and snake in the hub of the wheel represent the three poisons of ignorance, attachment and aversion. The middle 8 represent Karma, And the outer symbols represent the twelve links of origin (used in astrology). The fierce being holding the wheel is Yama, the God of death, representing the entire process of samsara or cyclic existence is impermanent, transient, constantly changing.

Vertaling bekijkenWas very satisfied until I found out that the manuscripts are held to the mount by adhesive tape impossible to remove without damaging the manuscripts. Who the hell puts tape on old manuscripts?!

We do show the mounting in the photographs that are provided for the auction. The tape we use is acid-free mounting tape and placed on the outer margins of the manuscripts on the reverse side.
