This work reflects on the geography, flora, fauna, and undescribed animals.
Steedman first arrived at Cape Colony in 1820 as in independent settler arriving on a settler ship.
He run a succesfull business in the colony wich then enabled him to fund his travels in search of natural history specimens.
Over the years Steedman collected over 300 animals, including many that had not been seen before.
Upon his eventual return to England and prior to the publication of this work he held an exhibition of his animals.

Original- and complete facsimile sets are both very scarce!
