Mihai Cotiga - Bored in my digital world

Bored in my digital world came as a sort of antithesis between oil painting and digital art and digitalization. We see everything on our phone nowadays. This is a large painting, and we'll see it mostly at 15cm tall on a display. Scrolling mindlessly it quite a popular term in today's age. So here's an old man sitting in a sort of cubic "throne" looking lost and maybe surprised of his surroundings. The painting does have over 1000 rectangles and took me quite some time to make, around 80-90 hours. It is an ode to physicality and to the traditional material of oil paint as it is to the use of technology because I composed the image as a collage with A.I. and Photoshop. I did have a lot of references to art history in mind as well while making it, such as Gerhard Richter or Ellsworth Kelly. The edges are not perfect, they could have been, but it would have been besides my point.

The painting is oil on canvas mounted on a wooden stretcher. It comes shipped very carefully in a box directly from Mihai Cotiga’s studio. The painting is hand signed on the back and it will come with a certificate of authenticity.

Mihai Cotiga is a painter based in Bucharest, Romania, whose works have been exhibited nationally and internationally. He uses his life events and thoughts to bring meaning into his work being driven by the curiosity to understand what is around us and the passion to always learn something new.
