"May 1968 in France (also known as Paris May Day) was the centre of the 1968 movement in France. In addition to improvements in study conditions, political demands were made regarding unemployment, consumer society (criticism of capitalism), the peace movement (especially against the Vietnam War, the Prague Spring, international solidarity) and the democratisation of society.
The unrest, which was initially triggered by the eviction of a faculty at the Sorbonne University in Paris following student protests in May 1968, led to a week-long general strike that paralysed the entire country. In the long term, this revolt led to cultural, political and economic reforms in France."
