Signed; Aaron Schuman - Slant - 2019

Signed 1st Edition, 2019 - MACK, London Silk-screen printed hardback 88 pages New, shrink-wrapped - additional photos from publisher Out-of-print, highly collectible item Cited as one of 2019's "Best Photobooks" by numerous photographers, critics and publications, including: The Guardian, Internazionale, American Suburb X, Photoeye and Photobookstore. ABOUT THE BOOK: Schuman was born in Amherst, Massachusetts. The poet, Emily Dickinson, was also from the same city. The title of this book pays tribute to her. SLANT is a reference to Dickinson’s poetry, with its so-called imperfect or sloping rhyme, assonant (in English, “rhyme rhyme”), as well as the relationship between text and image and, increasingly, between the image and the true. In SLANT, Schuman interweaves a selection of these clippings published between 2014-2018, with quietly wry photographs he made within a thirty-mile radius of Amherst from 2016-18, in response to their unintentionally deadpan descriptions. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Schuman is an American photographer, writer, curator and educator based in the UK. He is the author of several critically-acclaimed photographic monographs. His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions such as Tate Modern, Hauser & Wirth Somerset, Christie's (London / New York), the Institute of Contemporary Arts (London), the Centre for British Photography (London), the Ethnographic Museum Krakow, Format Festival, Fotobok Festival Oslo, Micamera Milan. His work is also held in many public and private collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The British Library, the National Art Library, and the Museum of Modern Art Library. ABOUT THE PUBLISHER: MACK is an independent publisher of award-winning books on visual art and architecture.
