Nr. 84937417
On offer is a truly magnificent and iconic predator, the sabretooth cat named Amphimachairodus giganteus. This was the largest of its family reaching 36 cm across. Notice the quality of its canines, they are truly stunning.
Amphimachairodus giganteus, a remarkable prehistoric predator, roamed the ancient landscapes of Eurasia during the Miocene epoch, approximately 12 to 5 million years ago. Belonging to the family Felidae (true cats), this formidable creature was a member of the machairodontinae subfamily, commonly known as the saber-toothed cats.
Standing as one of the largest of its kind, Amphimachairodus giganteus possessed an awe-inspiring stature, commanding respect and fear in its environment. With its robust build and distinctive elongated canines, this apex predator was well-equipped for hunting large prey, utilizing its formidable bite force to subdue and consume animals of considerable size.
We present you a complete skull of a large adult male embedded in his original matrix with authentic canines and incissors. A specific feature of these saber-toothed cats was their serrated canines (click to enlarge foto). Most specimens are found heavily deformed due to natural fossilization processes. In this case there is hardly any deformation to the skull.
Notice the presence of some extra bone material in the matrix, this is not a restored piece but a natural composition in the matrix.
Because of its fragility we cannot exepct bids from overseas buyers, so only EU bidders please.;
Will be shipped with professional courier.
Best of luck to all bidders.
