At around 10:30 on February 1947 eyewitnesses observed a large bolide brighter than the sun that descended at an angle of about 41 degrees. The bright flash and the deafening sound of the fall were observed for 300 kilometers around the point of impact. A smoke trail, estimated 32 km long remained in the sky for several hours. As the meteor, traveling at a speed of about 14 km/s entered the atmosphere it began to break apart. The event left mainly 2 types of meteorites. The one presented here shows the violent effects of being torn apart in the atmosphere or being blasted apart on impact with the ground. These are probably the fragments from the explosion 3.5 miles high. Many look like shrapnel from violent explosions. Some show shield shapes and are often ripped with striations like on the meteorite presented here!
