Impressive and very detailed map of Portugal and western Spain engraved on a large format copper plate, by Nicolás de Fer, unusual, printed in Paris in 1742 and published by Benard. It was engraved by P. Starckman.

The map extends north to Vigo and Burgos, east to Madrid and Toledo, and south to Málaga and Gibraltar, centered on the Tajo and Guadiana rivers. The map is colored by province and regions, and shows early roads, towns, rivers, lakes, mountains, castles and other important features. As mentioned in the title, it shows us in meticulous detail the entire border between Portugal and Spain. So we have in Portugal, Viana do Castelo, O Porto Lisboa, Évora, Faro. In Spain, Pontevedra and Ourense in Galicia, Burgos, Salamanca or Madrid in Castilla, Trujillo, Coria,... in Extremadura and in Andalusia, Cádiz, Seville, Gibraltar,...

In its lower-left margin it has a simple cartouche, inside which it has the full title, the name of the author, the city and date of publication, as well as the scale used and the geographical location of some of the cities located on the map. Next to it we can see a shield with the figure of a rampant lion and a beautiful Compass Rose completes the decoration.

Good condition. Original border line coloring. Some light creases and minimal water stains (in the margins). Otherwise very good. Thick paper, clear print.
