Antique Medical steam humidifier - vaporizer to relieve breathing problems. This antique medical devise was described as being used for the production of steam from water mixed with  ether, chloroform, or medication (epinephrine) to improve inhalation. The steam is produced by heating water mixed with medicine in the tightly closed kettle with a methylated spirit burner. (Img. 7-8). Steam with dispersed medication escapes through the two long tubes, fixed on top of the kettle. The two little buckets are for the collection of condensed water from the tubes.
These steam producing instruments were known by different names: atomizers, humidifiers, nebulizers, vaporizers or inhalers.
The principle used here is similar to modern nebulizers, only presently air is used instead of steam. 
Measures: Width overall 60 cm.  Height: 38 cm. Diameter kettle: 18 cm. Diameter little bucket: 8 cm, height 8 cm. The instrument has a beautiful old patina.
Complete, wick from burner to be renewed. No damages, no repairs. This instrument, coming from a former general practitioner's practice is a very rare collectors item.
