Stunning huge Altar Church Image of Saint Rita of Cascia, Italy. XVIII Century. Sculptured In stone and hand painted in fine gold. Portuguese School.

Called Margherita, that originated the name Rita, the Santa of Causes Impossibles was born in Italy in 1381. 
Shaken by the death of her husband and children, she wanted to go to the Augustinian convent of Cassia but was not accepted. He prayed fervently to the saints of his devotion: St. John the Baptist, St. Augustine and St. Nicholas of Tolentino. Having entered the convent, he lived there for 14 years until his death, bearing on his forehead a stigma, thus associating himself with the passion of Christ. It died in the monastery of Cássia in 1457 and was canonized in 1900.
A family of devotees brought the image of Cassia in Italy. It was the starting point for the devotion of more than a century that spread through the Sapucaí Valley, in the South of Minas Gerais.
The Sanctuary of Santa Rita receives pilgrims throughout the year. It  has three relics of the Italian saint: a bone particle, her habit and a life-size image from Cassia.
