A beautiful bronze cast 'kuduo' gold dust box of the AKAN/ASANTE from Ghana. 
Unique piece made with the cire perdue technique with a high quality level.

Height 25,5 cm.
17 cm x 12,5 cm.
Weight 2,050 kg.

On top of the lid of the box there is a group of OWARE/MANCALA board players under a parasol.
The two handles are ladders with a person climbing up on each side.
Very beautiful patina.

These bronze barrels are known as kuduo and were the possessions of kings and courtiers in the kingdoms of the Akan. Gold dust and nuggets were preserved here, as were other objects of personal value and meaning. As owners of the power of their owners, or life force, excellent characteristics for ceremonies were created to honour and protect that person. At the time of his death someones kuduo was filled with gold and other sacrifices, as well as a collection of items left behind at the cemetery (Metropolitan Museum of Art).
