Dési van Rhee

A beautiful cast, chiseled and patinated bronze sculpture of a slender angel, dressed in a long tunic, his feet visible underneath.  His left hand is placed upon his chest, while with his right hand he is making a gesture of blessing.    To the back there are holes and old rivets visible, which indicate that the angel would have had wings originally.  

This type of statue was often found as part of an important funerary monument.

Flanders.  16th century.`
