Théodore Alexander Weber (Leipzig, 1838 - Paris, 1907) was a German-French painter. During his stay in Berlin, from 1854 - 1856, he was a pupil of Wilhelm Krause. After this period, Weber moved to Paris.

Weber specialised in painting seascapes and painted in a large number of French ports along the Atlantic coast. He painted the ports of Grevelingen, Boulogne, Le Tréport, Fécamp, Trouville, Yport, Dover, Ostend, Blankenberge, Veere and Vlissingen. He also painted fishing boats on the open sea, for example in the bay of Douarnenez. In 1890, he travelled to Constantinople, which he also transferred onto canvas.

His style can be described as realistic/impressionistic. Also visible in the painting is a rough sea near Ostend in Belgium.
From 1861 to 1869, Weber participated in the salons in Paris and in Lyon in 1867. He was also present at Exposition Universelle (world exhibition) in 1900 in Paris.

The painting on offer is large and gives a beautiful and shows a atmospheric representation of the weather conditions in which fishermen worked on the coast. 

The painting was professionally restored and cleaned and is thus in good condition once again.

The work is framed in a classic frame with gold-coloured decorations.
