Original Murano glass sculpture by Andrea Tagliapietra, representing a nude of a woman.

The sculpture has a remarkable weight of 3.450 kg and is 29 cm high, including pedestal. It rests on a 7.5x7.5 cm block of satin glass, which is 8 cm tall and bears the artist’s signature. The nude height is 21 cm x width 14.5 cm. Even the material, Alexandrite glass, adds to the statue uniqueness.

This kind of glass, is a mixture containing Neodymium, a chemical element belonging to the rare earth metals, used as glass dye even in glasses for scientific use. Neodymium compounds colour changes with the type of lighting, turning from purple to light blue, as per photos.

Born in Murano in 1955, Andrea Tagliapietra started working in Murano glassworks at the age of 14, following in his father’s Erminio footsteps, who at that time, was the greatest master glassmaker at Salviati & C.

This nude dates back tot he 1980s and is in perfect state of preservation.
