Wonderful piece of work by the Belgian artist Pieter van Mol. On the back it says Moulin á Fontvieille. The oil painting is from a German collection of works of art by Pieter van Mol. 

Pieter van Mol is part of the so-called "Silent Generation". He won substantial fame in Southern France and also in Germany. It was only later that also the Belgian art world discovered interest in this artist. 

Pieter van Mol studied up to 1931 at the Brussels Academy of arts. After World War II he was in close contact with painters of the "Route Libre" and "La Jeune Peinture Belge".  

After a short period in Paris he went to Fontvielle, a village between Arles and Les Baux-de-Provence.

From 1960 to 1963 he attended the "Schule des Sehens" by Oskar Kokoschka in Salzburg, Austria and from 1979 onwards he settled in Heidelberg; Germany, where he spent the rest of his life.
