Grey lacquered wood shrine, with glass door on front. The shrine contains a plaster skull to create a “Memento Mori”, the medieval Latin Christian practice of reflection on “Vanitas” (vanity) and mortality, There are also dried flowers, a crucifix to pray and a butterfly resting on the skull, all with a beautiful patina. In the painting tradition, the “Vanitas” is a still life with symbolic elements alluding to mortality and transience of life.
 The name “Vanitas” comes from the biblical phrase “Vanitas vanitatum et omnia vanitas” (Qohelet), and, like the “Memento Mori”, is a warning to the ephemeral condition of existence.
 The interior of the shrine is lacquered in dark red. The exterior has a beautiful silhouette.
 Well preserved and in almost perfect condition, with only some woodworm hole in the wood.
