Condition: connected only by its margins to an protection plate. Had some waterstain in the upper right area and should be cleaned. The upper left corner has some damage but this is not affecting the image itself so could be repaired very well. The rest of the engraving is overall seen in an good condition. Watch pictures for an impression.

Description: The Skaters before the Gate of St. George at Antwerp engraving, 1553, on laid paper, first state (of two), with Cock's address. The meaning of this work, the scenery of people  Ice skating was reffered to as things going wrong. Misfortunes in peoples lives.The uncertainity of life. It is thought that Breughel himself worked together with Publisher hieronymus Cock for making this engraving.

Frans Huys (1522-1562) was an Southern Dutch engraver and artist. Huys worked together with Brueghel personally for the creation of this engraving

Hieronymus Cock, or Hieronymus Wellens de Cock (1518 – 3 October 1570) was a Southern Netherlandish painter and etcher as well as a publisher and distributor of prints.[1] Cock was the most important print publisher of his time in northern Europe and played a key role in the transformation of printmaking from an activity of individual artists and craftsmen into an industry based on division of labour. His house published more than 1,100 prints between 1548 and his death in 1570, a vast number by earlier standards.
