Dési van Rhee

Water sprinkler with the shape of a festive cherub. The small artefact is made of peperino, a sedimentary stone typical of the area of Viterbo (Central Italy). This stone was used in ancient times, especially by the Etruscans, to build their temples and bury their dead inside the famous sarcophagi. The use of this object is attested by its bronze nozzle, well assembled and fastened with lead. The item is still intact, well preserved, with only a bit of wear for the age. I think it dates back to the second half of the 19th century, no later. Another beautiful purchase of my father, certainly an antique object. The peperino is a volcanic stone.
