Yōkihi-zu 楊貴妃図 (Yang Guifei) - Seta - After Genki 源琦 (1747-1797) - Giappone - XIX secolo

The scroll features a Chinese beauty who is lavishly dressed and exquisitely coiffed in the fashion of a Tang aristocratic lady. Though not identified by the artist, we can safely assume that he intended the beauty in the front to refer to Yang Guifei (Japanese: Yōkihi), the infamous consort of Emperor Xuanzong (685–792) of the Chinese Tang dynasty, whose beauty was said “to put the flowers to shame.” (Following behind her was a maid.) Genki源琦 (June 12, 1747 – September 27, 1797) was a painter in the mid-Edo period. His surname was Komai, his real surname was Minamoto, and his given name was Ki, and he is often written as Komai Genki. His pen name was Shion, and he was commonly known as Konosuke. He was a leading disciple of Maruyama Okyo, and together with Nagasawa Rosetsu, they were praised as two philosophers. In contrast to Rosetsu, he most faithfully inherited his master's style, and is known especially for his neat and tidy portraits of Tang beauties. the painting as made after Genki and date it to the 19th century Material: silk Signed and Sealed Roller ends: bone Dimensions: Total dimensions: approx. 190 x 62.5 cm (excl. roller ends) Painting dimensions: 113 x 50 cm Good condition, antique item have originally crease, wrinkles, stains and one roller end was missing, please also look at the listed photos for a reference.
