Founded in the 1850s, Schatz was the leading manufacturer of classic ship’s clocks, continuing to make mechanical chiming movements until 1985, production later being taken over by Altitude clocks and Delite in Denmark.
This is a fine example of the top-of-the-range Schatz Royal Mariner ship's clock, produced in West Germany pre-1992. The case and face are in excellent condition. The lacquered brass housing shows only light patina, usual for a clock of this age. There are no dents or cracks. The clock shows fine workmanship with two eight-day mechanical movements, one each for clock and chimes correctly. It strikes the ship's bell 4-hour-watch sequence marked by progressive cycles of one-to-eight bells struck at 30-minute intervals. The door is secured by brass scuttle-clamps. The facet-cut glass-port is clean and intact.
The clock can be wound, it runs and keeps time. The clock chimes, but the number of chimes on the half-hour is incorrect and will need adjusting. The clock comes together with a winding key.
A great opportunity to own one of these top-line instruments, which after service should have a long life, for use at home, in the office or on-board ship.

Hi. Why you have posted a poor review? - You have not contacted me to tell me of the problem and discuss possible remedies. - You write that the clock does not work. But the clock was sold in an the auction “Clocks & Accessories for Restoration”- you cannot expect it to work without repair - The listing had a summary clearly stating that the clock does not work (“…..needs repair - runs slowly”) - The listing clearly states that the clock “runs slowly, so will need servicing” - The description concludes that this was a clock “which after service should have a long life” - In summary, I clearly write that the clock was for repair and restoration. It is unfair to criticize me if you cannot get the clock to work - If you had contacted me, we could have discussed ways to set up the clock (as outlined in the listing).
