Juan Gris - L'Atelier de Juan Gris - Galerie Louise Leiris
N. 91923899
This color lithographic poster was created for an exhibition of Juan Gris' paintings at the Galerie Louise Leiris, Paris in 1957. This exhibition retraced the last two years of Gris's work before he passed away in France in 1927 from kidney failure. Because the works included in the show were most probably located in his studio, it was called "L'Atelier", as it was common to call exhibits of works left to the estate after the death of an artist.
Juan Gris' last major exhibitions took place at the Galerie Simon in Paris and the Galerie Flechtheim in Berlin and Düsseldorf from 1923 to 1925. By then he had articulated most of his aesthetic theories and had given a definitive lecture at La Sorbonne on that subject in 1924. This still life truly represents Gris' continuous simplification of the cubist style to its essence so that some elements like the fruits and the pitcher, painted with total realism, are perfectly recognizable.
This Poster was reproduced by Mourlot Studio's famous Master Printer Henri Deschamps. Ed. 500.
