Translation by Charles Jarvis. Vol.I includes “The Life of the Author, extracted from Don Gregorio Mayan’s and Siscar’s Life of Cervantes.” In vol.I-II the printer’s attribution is also on the final page of text, in vol.III-IV it is on the reverse of the title-page and on the last page of text.

Each volume includes an engraved and vignetted title-page and 5 plates, bound as follows:

Each vignette and plate is untitled but shows the page number of the relevant text and carries, inter alia, the following: ‘Drawn by R. Westall, R.A. Engraved by Chas
Heath. London: Published by Hurst, Robinson & Co. 90 Cheapside, 1820.’ The plates bound here as frontispieces to vols I-III were intended to be placed opp. pp.61, 27, 11 respectively. The plate in vol.IV is ascribed to p.149 but actually illustrated an incident from p.194.

Bindings slightly cracked with some pages standing proud, vol.IV may be a re-bind, or from a different set and is inscribed on the title-page “L.A.Morgan, Blaikes House”.
