In Japanese culture, the hollyhock symbolizes prosperity and protection. The tsuba bears a signature on the front, further enhancing its value as a collectible piece. Echizen Jū Kinai was a renowned sword guard maker in the Edo period. The Kinai tsuba tradition dates back to the late Muromachi period, with the Ishikawa branch producing six generations, followed by the Takahashi line for seven generations until the Meiji era. Initially residing in Ōmi Province, the Kinai lineage later moved from Ichijōdani in Echizen Province to Fukui. The tsuba shows signs of age, including wear, minor scratches, and rust. Please note that while the lid and box fit together securely, they were not originally made as a matching set. Additionally, the fabric inside the box has slight staining, and a piece of paper is adhered to it. Kindly refer to the photographs to assess its condition. Dimensions: approx.
