Walachia Denar Mihai I, son of Mircea cel Bătrîn (1418-1420) Silver:0.35 g The date when the joint reign of Mircea the Elder and his son Mihail started is still a matter of debate among Romanian historians, the period 1408-1418 being more widely accepted. Nonetheless the only coinage attributable to this joint reign is represented by a single type of ducats similar to the those of Mircea the Elder (Type IIc) issued towards the end of his reign. The obverse of the known specimens is identical to the obverse of these ducats of Mircea, while the reverse is identical to a certain variant of Mihail's ducats (the one with sigla ), hence the possibility of these being hybrid coins struck during the reign of Mihail I. The Hungarian numismatist Réthy Laszlo was the first to briefly describe such a coin, in 1892 (but he attached a misleading drawing of a regular ducat of Mircea which didn't allowed for a confirmation).
